Stepping into who we are involves noticing who we were and who we want to be. This journey is unique to each person and it is a process that takes patience, kindness and presence. Meccana works with individuals, families and couples in a unique manner that brings her diverse experiences to provide sessions tailored to who you are and where you are in your journey.
Meccana is a registered social worker with over 17 years of experience offering person-centered support and advocacy with families across Canada. Meccana has a Masters of Social Work, and an undergraduate degree in psychology, sociology and gender studies.
Meccana has worked with people of various identities including youth, immigrants, people living with disabilities, as well as those who’ve experienced family conflict, domestic violence and/or have mental health concerns.
Meccana practices various therapeutic modalities which include - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, narrative therapy, solution focused, single session therapies, and use diverse lenses such as Harm Reduction, trauma informed and Anti-Oppressive Practice.
Meccana is certified in Mental Health First Aid, ASIST suicide intervention, and Domestic Assault Risk Assessment.
Meccana is also versed in faith-based therapy for clients who identify as Muslim.
In her spare time, she enjoy coaching house league soccer, writing poetry or being an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto. She is also very passionate about being involved in supporting and engaging our diverse communities.
She is a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
